Glasgow Weekend Breaks

Winning the UK City of Architecture and Design in 1999 and prior to that European City of Culture in 1990, Glasgow is now one of the major cultural destinations of Europe .

The Burrell Collection, The Art Gallery and Museum and The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery are some of the greatest art collections in the UK . In the Hunterian you'll find a large collection of work by Rennie Mackintosh including a replica of one of the artist's great homes.

The City of Glasgow owns one of the richest collections in Europe, displayed in 13 museums across the city.

All our museums are free, most have café facilities and we warmly welcome children.

The renowned, and superb Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum has now reopened following a multi-million pound refurbishment and another must visit is McLellan Galleries.

For contemporary art lovers, the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), in the heart of the city, runs a popular and thought-provoking programme of temporary exhibitions and workshops.

Children and families just love our popular Museum Of Transport , Fossil Grove and People's Palace - a museum celebrating the people who have made the city what it is today.

For a more relaxing time, why not visit the Winter Gardens , St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art or Provand's Lordship - Glasgow's oldest house which dates back to medieval times?

If you are a fan of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, you can visit Martyr's School and Scotland Street School Museum to see how his work developed both as an architect and artist.

If you want to escape from the city centre, visit The Burrell Collection and Pollok House , both set in the peaceful surroundings of Pollok Country Park.

Our collections are available to everyone, and our newest museum, the Glasgow Museum Resource Centre is both a storage facility and a visitor centre, offering free tours round 200,000 objects not previously on display.
